Bedtime Bath Redux

It was bath time for the kids and as they were in the middle of after cleaning playtime, there came a knock at the door. Not wanting to leave them alone, I got both of them out to see who it was. It was our friend who needed to pick up our old windows he replaced for us. Knowing he might need some help I dressed Wrævn in his pj's and went outside to help out (or at least talk to him while he did all the work). When we came back in Brandon called and as I was chatting with him I hear Ærowyn yell, "Mom, Wrævn's in the bathtub". Wondering what he was doing I realized I hadn't drained the water out. I guess he didn't think he was done yet.

I've updated Ærowyn and Wrævn's pages on our website. Make sure to check them out, especially all of Ærowyn's new artwork. We will be putting her Doozla art up soon as well so keep an eye out for that unveiling. Oh yeah, if you're wondering about the "puddle of blood" part of the picture it was blood to put in someone who needed it. Ask Ærowyn, she is the only one who really knows.

"It's just a very special question."

Ærowyn could barely wait for Sacrament Meeting to get over with yesterday at church so she could go see our bishop. She loves our bishop very much and makes sure she speaks with him every week. This seemed to be a little different though because she wanted to ask him a question.
"What do you want to ask him?" Brandon and I both inquired.
"It's just a very special question," was her reply.
Again we asked her what her question would be just to make sure it was appropriate, but she insisted it was just a special question and would not reveal it. Well, parents have to take risks all the time, so up we went to visit the bishop. She shook his hand, pulled him gently toward her and whispered in his ear. He stood up with a look of surprise on his face and answered her very sweetly. I looked at him and asked what the question was.
"She asked, 'Why do we have a prophet at general conference'." What a great question! I was very happy it was that and not something else. It's good to know we have a prophet on the earth today who speaks to God and gets answers that will help us be the best we can be and learn what we need to do to return to Him one day. I'm glad Ærowyn knows who the prophet is and loves him.

Wrævn doesn't need step stools anymore to get on things. He has figured out how to use his arms and legs without the extra help. Oh sad day.

We had an amazing weekend. The weather was so beautiful so we worked outside. Wrævn discovered eating mud is pretty fun and helped Ærowyn make a little house out of grass for some caterpillars.

Friday night we went to visit cousin Kat and her family at her house on Lake Washington. We always love seeing her. Kat gave Ærowyn the monkey t-shirt! It's sweet. Her hair looked so cute I had to take pics before we left. She of course picked out her outfit. She comes up with some pretty interesting combos sometimes. Just to note, the levi Jacket was Brandon's.

On Saturday we went to Wal-Mart to buy Ærowyn some flowers to make her a garden. Since I won't plant flowers in my flower beds we decided to let her have a little garden of her own. Well, someone wanted to blow Wal-Mart up (apparently this is a common occurrence at this one) so before we could check out we got kicked out and had to leave all of our stuff. Ærowyn started sobbing and just kept asking, "Why did that man take my flowers away?" It was so sad. So we went to Fred Meyer and got the flowers. We spent more than we had wanted, but there was no way we were going home without flowers after the big traumatic experience at Wal-Mart. She picked all the flowers out herself and helped me plant them. I'm sure she will be picking the petals off soon so we took a picture while everything is still alive. We put the lambs ear in so it would be fun for her to touch...but hopefully not pick. Only time will tell.

Flying Nuns...I mean Mormons

Not a lot to say tonight because I'm really tired, but I had to post 2 things that Ærowyn said today.

"Butterflies fly like Mormons."
For those of you who do not belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons), we do not fly, but I'm sure just like every other human on the planet, we would love that ability. This subject came up during dinner which is a great time for silly things to come out of everyone's mouths at our house.

"Good parents on the pill."
She was making up songs when this one came about. It was the title of one of her creations. Don't ask me where it came from because I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is that we all take vitamins at night and I call them pills.

What a character she is and I'm sure Wrævn will become. Goodnight...sleep long and restful....I hope.

Flutter-by

The other day we saw a commercial about raising butterflies at home and of course Ærowyn wanted us to order a farm right then and there. We told her maybe when she's older. (In case you or your kid is old enough here are a couple of websites: Insect Store and The Butterfly Sight) Well, today she asked me about them again, and I told her how fragile butterflies are and that they don't make very good pets because you can't pet them. She of course wanted to know why and I told her they would die blah blah blah. That made her sad, but then with some excitement she said, "Will it come back to life? Can butterflies be resurrected?"
"Yes. All things with a spirit will be resurrected," I stated with a smile on my face. That seemed to make her happy even though she still can't get the farm yet.

But I didn't learn anything!

On Sunday we woke up a little late, scrambled to get everybody ready, got to church just in time, put the hymn numbers up (Kristy and I are the choristers), got everybody settled in, sat down, listened to the prelude music, then the Bishop stood up.

Oh yeah - meanwhile it smells like someone was lighting off firecrackers in the chapel. A unique mixture of sulfur and plastic. The Bishop stood and announced that church was cancelled due to safety concerns. So without opening hymn or prayer, everyone got up and started to leave.

A very sad side note, I mentioned to Kristy that I'd never seen a group of happier Mormons at church. How sad is that?

Anyway, so I'm walking Ærowyn down the hall towards the car. She says, "Daddy - we have to go to Primary!"

"Sorry honey." I said. "No primary today - church is cancelled - we're going home."

Then Ærowyn looked up at me with puppy-dog eyes and said "But Daddy, I didn't learn anything!"

Priceless.

Oh - and they think it was a gas leak last I heard.
