On the 12th day of the Eurocentrically imposed midwinter festival, my Significant Other in a consenting adult, monogamous relationship gave to me:
TWELVE males reclaiming their inner warrior through ritual drumming,
ELEVEN pipers piping (plus the 8-member pit orchestra made up of members in good standing of the Musicians Equity Union as called for in their union contract even though they will not be asked to play a note),
TEN melanin deprived testosterone-poisoned scions of the patriarchal ruling class system leaping,
NINE persons engaged in rhythmic self-expression,
EIGHT economically disadvantaged female persons stealing milk-products from enslaved Bovine-Americans,
SEVEN endangered swans swimming on federally protected wetlands,
SIX enslaved Fowl-Americans producing stolen non-human animal products,
FIVE golden symbols of culturally sanctioned enforced domestic incarceration,
(NOTE: after members of the Animal Liberation Front threatened to throw red paint at my computer, the calling birds, French hens and partridge have been reintroduced to their native habitat. To avoid further Animal-American enslavement, the remaining gift package has been revised.)
FOUR hours of recorded whale songs
THREE deconstructionist poets
TWO Sierra Club calendars printed on recycled processed tree carcasses
And...
ONE Spotted Owl activist chained to an old-growth pear tree.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Good Kwanzaa, Happy Holidays …
Oh, heck...
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I ran across this and thought I'd share it. Seems like a fun project for the whole family.

Tux Paint
Since I had made a mistake on my last post (see below), I figured I would fill you in on Tux Paint. It's a free download so check it out at http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/
I think Doozla is more kid friendly, visually more appealing, and the sound effects are a little better, but Tux Paint has textures and other layering effects that Ærowyn likes to play around with. All the options offered, including choosing a color from a pallet, stamping, and the huge selection of shapes and designs are awesome. It allows her to be more creative than Doozla which is great. When I have her open it I just mute the sound and then I'm good. (make sure you read the comments for this post)

Ærowyn's Earth
Ærowyn created this in Tux Paint (I had recently said it was in Doozla, but I was mistaken...sorry) the other day...after she finished she said, "Look. I created an earth."
Personally, I think it kinda looks like the satellite view from google maps.

I want all that crap in my yard!

First things first...
Our annual Argosy Christmas Cruise was awesome - thanks cousin Kat!!! A week before the trip I asked Ærowyn if she would like to write a letter to Santa Claus and her response was, "No, I will ask him in person on the boat". Sure enough, she spent quite a lot of time with Mr. Claus. Every time she saw him she ran up and gave him a big hug and told me all about the princess polly pockets she wants. Wrævn was a bit scared and wouldn't sit on his lap, but as you will see in one of the pictures, he did give a nice friendly wave to him.
We got to ride on the main boat this year and it was pretty fun. There is a big Christmas tree on the third deck and big loud speakers to broadcast all the fun Christmas music and the live choir which was a young girls choir. There was a great kid's section that had 2 "elves" that watched our kids while we chatted and walked around the different decks. Ærowyn colored 3 pictures for Santa, looked at books, and played with some fun wintery stamps. Wrævn colored a couple of pictures and played with a truck puzzle. Brandon and I drank some super yummy, creamy hot chocolate and chatted with our friends.
The boat ride was wonderful, the water was nice and calm, and there was lots of boats decorated up with lights. They have a parade where local boats follow the Argosy boats. It's just fun. It's nice to have a captain in the family that invites us to these things :) Now that Ærowyn has asked Santa for stuff, we just need to get our tree up, and do some giving, and we'll be all set for the holiday season.
Before I sign out for the day, I just want to post some things that Ærowyn has been saying lately:
Question: Does Heavenly Father know how to make Strawberry Shortcake and unicorns?
We saw a cloud in the sky that looked like a short jet stream and she asked, "Is that a sidewalk that Heavenly Father uses?"
Thursday night as I was lying with Ærowyn in her bed having a little chat, she told me she was excited for my birthday. She wanted to get me a present. When I asked her what, she said, "I want to buy you lots of necklaces, rings, and fake makeup so we can share." When I told her she was silly, she said, "I am not. I mean it. I want to get that for you." The funny part was is she was really serious.
Conversation on the way home from church today after we saw a house all decked out with lights and those blow up things:
Ærowyn: Can we decorate our house like that?
Brandon: When you are old enough to buy, set up and take them down by yourself then we can. I don't want all of that crap in our yard.
Kristy: You don't have to answer so harshly.
Brandon: Well...
Ærowyn: I want all that CRAP in our yard because it's Christmas!
