I love a good cat-house

So w/ our rental house, we've been extra-paranoid about Fæd scratching on the walls, corners, doors, carpet etc. The scratching post we made for him got left in Utah at my brother's house, so we thought - let's just buy one!

So we went shopping, and every time we found one we liked it was between $30 and $200. So we thought - let's just make another one!

So on Saturday I drove around Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene hitting all the thrift shops for some kind of box to act as a base. I could've built it myself, but I'm the kinda guy who likes to re-use if possible - saves me a ton of measuring, cutting, crying, re-measuring, driving back to Lowe's for new wood, cutting again - crap, forgot to measure - I SWEAR I MARKED IT AT 9 and 3/16th not 8 and 3/16!!! AAAAAH!

After I found the purrfect box, I returned home to explain to Kristy how, by the time this thing gets built - although it'll look pretty cool, it'll have cost about the same as a pre-built one.

I got the carpet for free from a local carpet place, bought a 10" cylindrical cement form from Lowes, 100' of sisal rope, 1 bottle of Gorilla glue, 1 roll of Gorilla Tape, 1 bottle of Gorilla wood glue, 1 can of black spray paint and 8 L brackets from Wal-Mart.

A few minutes ago we finished it up and got Fæd (after much coaxing) to go in, hang out, climb to the top and sit.

The only left to do really is carpet the top... as we found that once he gets to the top it's difficult for him to grab onto something to pull himself out of the hole.

Anyway - here are the pix. Maybe some to follow w/ Fæd too.

That is AMAZING! If I was a cat, that would surely be the coolest hang out in the world. It's important for him to have a spot.
